TAF-Accredited IMR pTau217 Clinical Laboratory Testing Available in Taiwan
The milestone expands access to quality-assured blood-based biomarker testing for the clinical evaluation of Alzheimer’s disease
IMR pTau217 blood testing is now available as a clinical laboratory service in Taiwan through a medical laboratory accredited by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) under ISO 15189, with pTau217 testing included in the laboratory’s accredited scope.
This milestone brings IMR pTau217 testing into a quality-assured medical laboratory environment and expands access to a blood-based biomarker that may support qualified healthcare professionals in evaluating patients with cognitive symptoms.
pTau217 as an Alzheimer’s disease blood biomarker
Phosphorylated tau at threonine 217, commonly known as pTau217 or p‑Tau217, is associated with amyloid and tau-related pathological changes in Alzheimer’s disease.
Growing clinical evidence supports the role of plasma pTau217 as a blood-based biomarker associated with Alzheimer’s disease pathology. When interpreted alongside clinical findings and other relevant assessments, pTau217 results may help inform further clinical evaluation.
Blood-based biomarker testing provides a less invasive and potentially more accessible source of clinical information than cerebrospinal fluid collection. It may also help healthcare professionals identify patients who could benefit from additional cognitive assessment, specialist consultation, neuroimaging or cerebrospinal fluid testing.
IMR pTau217 results should be interpreted by qualified healthcare professionals together with the patient’s symptoms, medical history, cognitive assessment, imaging findings and other relevant clinical information.
Powered by ultrasensitive IMR technology
The pTau217 blood test uses proprietary ImmunoMagnetic Reduction technology, an ultrasensitive analytical platform designed to measure very low concentrations of neurological biomarkers in human plasma.
IMR technology detects changes in the magnetic properties of antibody-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles following their interaction with specific target biomarkers. This approach enables sensitive biomarker measurement while supporting a streamlined analytical workflow.
The addition of pTau217 strengthens the IMR portfolio of blood-based biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases. The portfolio includes amyloid beta, total tau and other biomarkers associated with neurological injury and disease processes.
Together, these biomarkers may provide complementary information to support a more comprehensive evaluation of neurodegenerative disease-related changes.
What TAF accreditation means
TAF accreditation under ISO 15189 recognizes the quality management system and technical competence of a medical laboratory within its defined testing scope.
For IMR pTau217 testing in Taiwan, the accreditation provides independent recognition of the laboratory’s competence to perform the test under established procedures and quality controls.
The assessment covers relevant elements of laboratory operation, including personnel competence, equipment, analytical procedures, quality assurance and result reporting.
Advancing blood-based biomarker testing
The TAF accreditation milestone marks meaningful progress in the clinical implementation of IMR pTau217 testing in Taiwan.
By combining ultrasensitive IMR technology with internationally recognized medical laboratory quality standards, the service helps strengthen testing consistency, quality assurance and confidence in laboratory reporting.
The milestone also demonstrates the potential for innovative blood-based biomarkers to move from scientific research toward responsible clinical laboratory application.
Continued collaboration among medical laboratories, healthcare professionals and research institutions will help advance the role of pTau217 and other blood-based biomarkers in the evaluation of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative conditions.
